Futuristic Technology

Recently, I read the blog post A Cloudy Crystal Ball, which focused on the future of technology. The main idea of the post was to share how in the past it has been difficult to predict the future, and the source provided key examples of this. This was very interesting to me because I don't commonly think deeply about the future. My interest grew stronger, and I began doing some research on some of the possible future technology products.

Technology plays a huge role in our everyday lives. As you know, technology is always advancing, and people are inventing something new every day. It’s crazy to learn about the technology that is predicted to be released in the near future. After doing research, I’ve gathered some data on a couple products that could possibly be released by 2030! It varies from brain implants allowing people to read each other's minds, to robotic guide dogs.

Aguavida

One of the products that really caught my attention was something called Aguavida. According to Business Insider, this is water that would give people a chance to live longer or even forever. “Aguavida, a futuristic water that grants people immortality, would give everyone that chance. But since populations are growing rapidly, Aguavida would try to avoid the over-crowding problem by containing an ingredient that permanently sterilizes all who drink it” (Weller). This type of product seems surreal to me, and it’s amazing that people are currently thinking and discussing possible ideas like this.

Robotic Guide Dogs

Casually, you might be strolling the streets of Boston or Concord and see a person with a guide dog. These dogs are trained to guide and support blind or other handicapped humans to find their way around. On sciencefocus.com, it mentioned the idea of robotic guide dogs. A robotic guide dog would be very helpful to people who are unable to use a real guide animal due to an allergy or other problem. This would be a huge technological advancement, and I’m anxious to see if it will really happen in the future. So far I have high hopes, and currently, Anthony Camu, a student at Loughborough University is designing this little robot. Stay tuned for a possible release in the future!

Mind Reading Implants

Chris Weller, an author for Business Insider, also mentions that by 2026, humans can possibly have the ability to read each other's minds. This would work with the help of tiny brain implants which gather data on what the other person is thinking. The IFTF (Institute for the Future) says that these implants are currently being designed to focus on couples, giving them the ability to "truly be together, even when you're apart" (Weller).

Learning about these possible upcoming products excites me for the future, and I can't wait to see how much more our technology evolves!

  1. Do you think that a product such as the water would really be produced? It seems like it would raise a lot of ethical issues. How theoretical are these ideas, versus being practical and in development like the robotic guide dog?

    1. I agree that it's very hard to believe that this type of product could actually be produced. But I think the main idea that stuck out to me was how cool it was that they have the idea and their own beliefs that this could possibly happen. There definitely would be some ethical issues with this product, but it was a cool example and it would be a hugeee advancement in technology if they found out a way to make this product work! In the end, I'm not sure how successful this product would be, but the fact they have some hope and possible technological ideas is very cool to me and proves how far along technology is today.

  2. Loren, if you create water that lets people live forever and then the Earth is overpopulated, I am going to be so mad at you.

    1. It's a good thing I won't be creating it.. Also did you read: "But since populations are growing rapidly, Aguavida would try to avoid the over-crowding problem by containing an ingredient that permanently sterilizes all who drink it" They have it all planned out!

  3. Exactly! It's crazy to think about the advanced technology we have. People used to dream of self driving cars, cleaning robots, etc. it all seems surreal that products like that are actually available today. I can only imagine what the products my future kids will be using are.. Thanks for the comment.

  4. Do you think something such as a robotic guide dog will be trusted enough by people to let it lead them? Or will people be fearful of a malfunction that could be costly and/or fatal?

Technology in a Global Pandemic

Over the course of the past year, technology has become vital to our society. Due to the global pandemic, physically communicating with peers has been tough. One major way that people are able to keep their special bonds is through social media and technology. There are apps and programs on our phones and computers that allow us to stay connected with our friends and family. In most cases, we can hear them speak, and sometimes even see them! Facetime, Zoom, Snapchat, Instagram, and basic call and text are some technology programs that have been very useful in these tough times. Technology was used for basic communication even before the pandemic. Now, it has evolved to a whole new level. Today, technology has many other functions including, remote learning, online shopping, contactless payments, telehealth, and more.  Education      Education is fully remote in most places. Many schools have switched over and adapted to ...
