Technology in a Global Pandemic

Over the course of the past year, technology has become vital to our society. Due to the global pandemic, physically communicating with peers has been tough. One major way that people are able to keep their special bonds is through social media and technology. There are apps and programs on our phones and computers that allow us to stay connected with our friends and family. In most cases, we can hear them speak, and sometimes even see them! Facetime, Zoom, Snapchat, Instagram, and basic call and text are some technology programs that have been very useful in these tough times. Technology was used for basic communication even before the pandemic. Now, it has evolved to a whole new level. Today, technology has many other functions including, remote learning, online shopping, contactless payments, telehealth, and more.  Education      Education is fully remote in most places. Innovations Here, There, Everywhere!

This week I’m going to be focused on comparing and contrasting the most innovative states and countries from around the world. There are innovations and advancements that are happening locally as far as globally, and it’s interesting to see who is the most innovative and who might be struggling. Being innovative is something that we all strive for, it means you’re creative and easily come up with new ideas. You can be innovative in many different ways. Technology is something that is widespread everywhere, so it’s always being innovated and there is a lot that we can compare.  Innovations Ranked Locally Photo from clipart-library.com      Close to home, NH is a state that is fairly innovative with technology. Jeff Feingold from NH Business Review, states that “New Hampshire has moved up two spots to No. 7 in the Milken Institute’s ranking of state “innovation pipelines.”” Wikipedia says that the Milken Institute is a group that posts research and...

Social Media is a Disease

This week I watched a variety of TED talks that surrounded the topic of social media. The one that really stood out to me was about the harms and negative effects of social media on our bodies and mental health, it was called W hy you should quit social media, performed by computer scientist Cal Newport. Newport is someone who has admitted to never having a social media account. This statement was eye-opening to me because "Social media usage is one of the most popular online activities in 2019, 79% of the population in the United States had a social networking profile (Clement.)" This means Newport is a part of the 21% of Americans who don’t. You could also infer from this information that Newport is a little bias because he is not a social media user himself. Personally, I'm interested in this topic because I’m involved with many different social media platforms, and I never really understood the gravity of how bad it is for me as a person.  The main idea that Newport t...

Futuristic Technology

Recently, I read the blog post A Cloudy Crystal Ball, which focused on the future of technology. The main idea of the post was to share how in the past it has been difficult to predict the future, and the source provided key examples of this. This was very interesting to me because I don't commonly think deeply about the future. My interest grew stronger, and I began doing some research on some of the possible future technology products.      Technology plays a huge role in our everyday lives. As you know, technology is always advancing, and people are inventing something new every day. It’s crazy to learn about the technology that is predicted to be released in the near future. After doing research, I’ve gathered some data on a couple products that could possibly be released by 2030! It varies from brain implants allowing people to read each other's minds, to robotic guide dogs. Aguavida      One of the products that really c...
